Hello, I’m Mary Hawkins

I’m an art director, animator+designer in New York City.

I’m a typography-driven art director who uses bold type and big color choices to bring playfulness and whimsy to motion graphics for pop-culture, beauty and kid’s brands. I also work with nonprofits and social good groups to create positive change. As a freelance art director, I collaborate with creative directors, writers and other creators to build out 360 campaigns that include social, broadcast and out-of-home. I have a flexible, broad-based skillset in design and illustration and I love finding new ways to bring motion and life to your projects.

Outside of work

I’m a dancer and dedicated volunteer. I believe that design can change the world, and I love to build up communities and make the world a better, prettier place. I’m the Head Jeerleader for Gotham Roller Derby. I have a thriving side hustle: Mary Likes Postcards. I’m the treasurer emeritus of Rise and Resist, and the protest posters I’ve designed have been used to illustrate stories in a dozen major publications, including the New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, The New Yorker and The Guardian.
